Mapping data is the process of linking synchronized objects with a corresponding column in an uploaded csv/excel file.
This connection enables COMANAGE to automatically match objects in the model with additional information from the file, making it easy to enrich your objects with all data from the file.
💡Practical example
- In Revit, you have already assigned classification codes to your types.
- Synchronize your Revit model with COMANAGE.
- Add a Model Data property and select the 'Classification code' parameter.
- Upload a file containing your classification data.
-
Map the Model Data property (from step 3) to the corresponding column (from step 4).
→ The system will automatically match identical classification codes.
→ You can now display all additional values from the file on your objects by adding them as External Data properties.
How to map
- Go to the Configuration section.
- Locate the uploaded csv/excel file and click the context menu (three-dot icon).
- Click Map Data and the dialog shown above will open.
- Select the column that contains the classification codes.
- Select the Model Data property that contains the same classification codes. (⚠️ The value types length, area and volume are not supported for mapping)
- Check Value Matches to see how many objects have a classification code that matches a classification code in the file.
- Click Save and Close.
- Add other columns (IFC Type, Description, Status etc.) as External Data properties.
- Go to the object table in the Manage section and enable the External Data properties, and the corresponding values from the file will appear on your objects.
Mapped data is not editable
Once the mapping is executed, values originating from the file cannot be edited on the objects. They are read-only. You need to clear the mapping to make the objects editable again.
Clear mapping
If you want to remove the mapping you can manually clear it.
- Go to the Configuration section.
- Locate the uploaded csv/excel file and click the context menu (three-dot icon).
- Click Clear Mapping and a the dialog will tell you that 'Clearing will disable automatic application of external data. Current object data will remain unchanged'.
- Now you can edit the external data on the objects again.
Updating the file used for mapping
You can upload an updated version of the file without removing the existing mapping. The objects in the Manage section will be updated automatically.
⚠️ If the column used for mapping has been renamed or deleted, a warning will inform you that the mapping will be cleared.
