This feature lets you upload a CSV/Excel file and generate properties directly from the file’s columns.
This allows you to seamlessly import all data from the file into COMANAGE, making it easy to assign values to your objects.
Be sure the file meets the following requirements
- A column containing unique values must be placed on the far left.
- Every column in the table must have a header.
- All column headers must be distinct (i.e. no duplicate names).
Adding properties from a CSV/Excel file
- Go to Configuration.
- Click Add External Data on the External Data card.
- Select a file from your PC.
- The Name is by default the same as the name of the file, but you can overwrite it
- If the file contains sheets, you can select the desired sheet from the dropdown.
- You get an overview of the columns in file/sheet and number of rows for each column.
- You can also preview the file/sheet (opens up in a new dialog) for a better overview.
- Click Add to save your file.
- Now go to the Properties card and click Add Property.
- Select External Data.
- Select both Type and Instance if you want the values to be shown on both types and instances in the object table.
- In the External Source drop down, select the External Data file that you just added.
- In the Column dropdown, select one of the columns from the file.
- Click Add
- Repeat point 8 and 9 to add more columns from the file.
- Close the dialog when you have added all columns needed.
Adding data from a CSV file to your objects
- Go to Manage and add your External Data Properties to the object table.
- When editing a cell in one of these columns, a dropdown menu will appear, displaying all the correlated columns derived from the same file.
- Select a value from the dropdown, and all the correlated cells in the object table will be automatically filled out.
Updating the External Data file
- Go to Configuration.
- On the External Data card, edit the row of the External Data you wish to update.
- Click upload (arrow-up icon) to select a new version of the file.
What has changed in the file?
✅ Only the values in the file have been updated: The updated values will automatically overwrite the existing ones in the object table.
✅ A column in the file has been removed or renamed: You will receive a warning indicating that columns linked to properties have been moved. If an External Data property is based on the removed column, the property will be converted to an Input property.
❌ The column on the far left has been removed or renamed: You will receive a notification stating that the ID column of the file must not be removed or renamed. The updated CSV/Excel file cannot be uploaded.
