VALIDATE checks your models against the information requirements of the project, for example that all doors have an approved fire rating, so you find missing or incorrect data before delivery. You set this up once with validation rules and model checks. After that, the checks can be run whenever the model changes.
Note: Everyone whose role gives access to Validation Rules and Model Checks can create rules and checks.
1. Create the validation rules
A rule describes which elements to check (the filter) and what they must contain (the requirements). You can add rules in three ways:
| Way | When to use it |
|---|---|
| Create Revit Rule | Check data in Revit models against your own company or project requirements |
| Create IFC Rule | Check IFC models against your own requirements |
| Add IDS | Import requirements from an IDS file, for example one you received from the client |
- Go to Validate → Validation Rules.
- Click Create Revit Rule, Create IFC Rule or Add IDS.
- Define the filter and the requirements, or select the specifications from the IDS file.
- Click Add.
💡 To allow only certain values, set Value to List of Values. You can type the values or Import a list.
2. Create a model check
A model check combines the models you want to check with the rules to run against them. It is saved on the project, so it can be run again.
- Go to Validate → Model Checks and click Add Model Check.
- Enter a name and choose Revit or IFC.
- Select the models and the rules.
- Click Add.
See Create Model Checks.
3. Choose when the check runs
Turn on Auto-Run to run the check automatically when an included model is updated, for example when a Revit model is synchronized from the Revit add-in. If you leave it off, users run the check themselves.
💡 Rules and model checks can be saved in a project template, so every project checks against the same requirements.
